WORKS ELABORATION:
In Michel de Certeau's theory of space practice (walking in the city), "walking", as a daily practice, makes urban space a readable, writable and changeable spatial structure, and individual space and meaning occur in a stable urban order. From my perspective, painting for space is equivalent to "walking" for the urban system. In my “Room” project, I make images against the backdrop of the everyday, creating luminous holes in the images through the revelation of the everyday, giving them a tense of being, functioning as what De Certeau calls a "walking", exploring the possibility of rewriting a moment in time with the participation and experience of the everyday. It also indicates the ability to appropriate a fragment of the everyday. I constantly make images of what is happening, in a way that transforms everyday order and place into a space with personal meaning.
TUTOR COMMENT:
During his postgraduate studies, young artist Lv Kaiqi has explored the possibilities of transformation between space, tense and personal experience. In the group of works "Room", he uses the language of pure oil painting to create shining "white holes" on the picture through the fragmented memory of daily life, thus depicting a smooth and high-profile image space. This kind of picture production made high demands on his unique creative method. His "spatial practice" is closely related to his usual rigorous, precise, and rational way of thinking. Behind the images, people can experience his in-depth study and mature understanding of the French philosopher Michel de Certeau's theory of space practice.Meanwhile, Kaiqi has a deep understanding of the "transcendental rationality" of surrealist painters such as Marguerite and Chirico. He has given images an ongoing tense and pursues the possibility of rewriting time, scene, and space with everyday participation and experience. As a result, the sense of spatiality and order is altered in his staggered, inflated, missing spaces. The relationship between original objects and familiar elements is a detached, melancholy and fragile relationship. This meaningful sense of imbalance lends his work a bizarre, psychedelic brilliance...
