WORKS ELABORATION:
Silent Stone Statue 2022" Overview of the work analysis of "stillness" and "movement" in the properties of objects.Silent Stone Statue 2022 is inspired by an aesthetic experience I had as a child: the 19th century French Romantic painter's work "The Martyred Maiden". In the painting, the young girl is tied and thrown into the river with a serene and calm face. Although this is a religious story painting, the maiden herself conveys, or I perceived, a sense of contradiction that had a profound influence on my later paintings. In my opinion, the soul of the young girl in the picture has been dissipated, while the physical body, which is the container for the soul, still exists objectively, so at this moment, the young girl in the picture has both the vividness brought by the "human" appearance and the eternal stillness brought by the container. The properties of movement and stillness create a great conflict and contradiction in the same object. The same visual experience was given to me by Millet's Ophelia and many other Greek sculptures.
In my opinion, the human figure is also an object of great contradiction. When an object is portrayed as a human figure, it is seen by us as a viewer as one of the same kind, as a "human" being. When we see a great sculpture that freezes the movement of a figure in a moment, we think of it as having a sense of timelessness. Based on this view, I created three works based on the theme of stone statues, with the intention of expressing the two conflicting properties inherent in the objects: "movement" and "stillness", in other words, "momentary "and "eternity".
