WORKS ELABORATION:
My imagination of space in my pictures often comes from my personal psychological perception. I am accustomed to the sense of security in a claustrophobic space and prefer things with a strong sense of mystery, so the objects in my works are always subject to a relatively closed space. Through the personal re-interpretation of space, the space experience of calm and uneasiness is presented.
I mainly use space for subjective interpretation of objective objects. My images mainly come from the objective world, into which I project my own emotions and states. Break the psychological suggestion that space can solve. In countless independent Spaces, through misplacement, to break the conventional visual experience, to create an uneasy and depressed visual experience. I hope to present an "impossible" real world composed of contradictory and staggered Spaces.
TUTOR COMMENT:
Huang Yifei’s graduate work,"fan" series and "Ji" series, skilled and subtle use of woodcut color matching techniques language, to express her understanding of the concept of "space". Her works originate from the cognition and understanding of objective images, and then through the transformation of personal thinking concepts, inject their own emotion and rational reorganization. Her personalized and unconventional visual space is a special, misplaced and contradictory "non-realistic" space illusion with mysterious light and color effects. Delicate and exquisite carving methods and subtle changes of color levels add to the mysterious visual atmosphere of the work.

Huang Yifei's series of works are derived from her imagination of objective objects and landscape space. She is used to being alone in a quiet space. This experience makes her feel safe physically and mentally, and at the same time, she is wrapped by the uncertain factors that will happen around her. The series of works use the expression language of woodcut to create the inner contradiction between objective landscape and subjective space experience through the subtle engraving on the plate and the printing texture of varied ink levels, so as to express the individual inner state through the use of space contradiction.
