WORKS ELABORATION:
I grew up in a family of forestry in the Greater Khingan Mountains, where I often saw all kinds of wood. The chopped wood in the studio always gives me a familiar, intimate taste of “home”. At the same time, I feel very familiar with the unique scars and burls of chopped wood and the peculiar “smell of wood” when cutting timbers, from which my creation started.
This work is made from discarded wood using the methods of cutting, splicing and reconstructing. It is a representation of the author’s social experiences, learning experiences and perceptions of society, as well as an expression of his own “human theater”.
TUTOR COMMENT:
Huo Qipeng’s graduation work “Human Theater” employs a variety of techniques of freehand brushwork, symbolism and surrealism to deconstruct and reassemble the materials, separate spaces in an orderly manner, sift through all sorts of strange things in the society, and integrate personal reflections, experiences, dreams and fantasies, so as to create a grand symphony made up of nature, society, human life, circles of life and time travel. The work shows the great tension of the materials, and it is filled with freedom, intellectuality and imagination, giving people a refreshing feeling.
I believe that Huo Qipeng will give full play to his strengths and advantages in his future artistic creation, and through more in-depth research on modelling language and spatial field, he will acquire a broader range of possibilities and make more achievements.
