WORKS ELABORATION:
I juxtapose the three sceneries of Qingcheng Mountain, Qiyun Mountain and Wudang Mountain in the painting to represent the residence of immortals, in which varied spaces and floating clouds add to the misty and mysterious nature of the “mountains beyond mountains”; the fine brushwork and light inking allow everything to be restrained and blended, praying and wishing for the harmony between human and nature.
TUTOR COMMENT:
Zhang Yifeng has solid skills in pen and ink and is artistically accomplished. He has a unique perspective and artistic language in the transformation of sketching, imitating and creating skills in landscape painting. He is good at discovering and reconstructing the connotations of landscape subjects from different cultural backgrounds in Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, and searching for the contemporary meaning of the spirit of landscape from the roots of the landscape culture. His graduation work takes the Taoist immortal mountains of Qiyun Mountain, Qingcheng Mountain and Wudang Mountain as the subject matter, showing the integration of human and nature through superb painting skills. His unique juxtaposition of imagery creates a mysterious and elegant mountain landscape, which is quite rare as a graduation work. Thus this work won the highest award of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. I hope that Zhang Yifeng’s future will be bright as he continues to explore bravely.
